Do I pay taxes while on a student Visa?
« on: September 26, 2017, 05:02:56 PM »
I will be going to Canada on a student visa to attend York and I am not sure if I will need to pay taxes of any kind or not.
I tried to find the information online and no one seems to be able to give a straight answer for my particular situation.

It depends on the term of your stay. If you reside at a residence (localized address under you name) and stay longer than 183 days during the year, you are considered a resident. That would mean you would have to pay. Non-resident students do not pay these taxes.

IN most cases you do not pay any taxes. I think that you would need a permit to work and your work income would be taxed but your livable situation doesn't change here.
