Do I have to physically be in Canada to file my taxes?
« on: September 25, 2017, 05:40:56 PM »
I read that it can be a bit of hassle if I am filing while in between countries. I am a green card holder looking to stay in Canada but I do have to go back to the US around the time I will need to file my taxes in Canada. Is it possible to do this from the US or should I just make a point to come back and get it done?

If you have the forms, you can file them from the US. My question is, what taxation company are you going through or are you going to manually do them yourself? Some companies can accept your forms via snail mail to process from outside the country. Since you are a green card holder, this shouldn't be too much of a problem.

As mentioned above, you do not need to be in the country but it does make the process go a lot smoother. If you are familiar enough with the process, just get the forms forwarded to you and then forward them back from your Canadian address.
